We seem to be debating a different thing then Njrg- I would fully agree that there are many interesting genres and play methods being explored on the DS (my favourite example in the hyena audiobook player: ). There have also been a few Japanese games along the lines of what you want but to my knowledge none have been translated and I can not even recall names at this point in I would have to agree with tomrev- there are difficult games but few with anything deep/allowing nuance. I expect most good memories I have of this are from lack of RPGs (the first few hundred games/years of the DS had few and those were not so good) but Contact was not bad. I rarely venture beyond POWDER when roguelikes are what is called for but I did quite enjoy Izuna - Legend of the Unemployed Ninja for a while. It is nowhere near what was called for but as long as we are heading down this path Lone Wolf DS: The Dark Spire might be worth a look although that is definitely in traditional RPG territory. The Guild DS (The_Guild_EUR_MULTi3_NDS-iND) being a trade simulator and probably about as good as you will get for your request on the DS. It seems there was at least one game that might do in the late roms This being said my knowledge of roms past about 3000 leaves a lot to be desired so there might be something in there.Įdit: You might also like some of the Anno series like Anno 1701: Dawn of Discovery and although trade plays a minor role Civilization Revolution does have similar gameplay ideas as a game progresses. There are some other games with growing/trading/crafting systems approaching complex (looking at the likes of harverst moon, rune factory and animal crossing) but nothing major and would take serious effort to fail at/are more grind than anything else.Īfter this we are back in your typical RPG buying, grinding, selling sort of thing.
Elite is also on the GBA in several forms from the same author as the DS one: There are also a couple of GBA games and in homebrew like and commercial offerings in Sea Trader - Rise of Taipan. If you are after complexity I suggest some of the roguelikes including my favourite in POWDER. Elite has been ported to the DS in homebrew form:
